A few words on the power of writing January 12, 2009

Before I start on today’s posts, I just want to say that I slept badly last night.  I was coming down with something that involved a lot of phlegm that just refused to come out.  With class about to start in a couple of days, I needed all the rest I could get.  And study, let’s not forget about that.  A masters in law is no walk in the park.

But instead, I stayed up past midnight working on that first lengthy post.  I didn’t want to stop typing.  When I finally switched off the computer and went to bed, I couldn’t fall asleep.  My mind was racing with things I wanted to write about, either on this blog on in my novel.  This went on for I don’t know how long, but it was beginning to become annoying.  I needed to sleep, and yet my mind wouldn’t let me.  Same thing happened the couple of times I woke up in the middle of the night.

So this morning, with a bloated stomach and a chest full of phlegm, I decided to get up early.  So I could write some more.  I guess that is the power of writing, of having a goal, of pursuing something you have a passion for.  I remember I used to struggle mightily getting up each morning for work, even if I just had ten hours of sleep the night before.  I just dreaded getting up because I knew what was ahead of me was not what I wanted to do with my life.  Conversely, now that I’m not working, I’ve been looking forward to getting up each morning, regardless of how little rest I got the night before.   And while my body is fighting with me, my mind is feeling as sharp as ever.  Let the writing begin!
